1999 World Post Day

To mark the 1999 World Post day, the MPS issued a Special Commemorative Cover on October 9th, 1999.


40cs - Train ('Inland Transport' series of 1998)

60cs - Wheelwright saron ('Petits Métiers' series of 1997)

Rs7 - Dutch map of Mauritius 1870 ('400th Anniversary of Dutch Landing' series of 1998)

Rs8 - Landing fleet ('400th Anniversary of Dutch Landing' series of 1998)

The SCC was also issued to celebrate the 125th anniversary of the Universal Postal Union, which, you all know, was founded on October 9, 1874.  The SCC also features the 20cs stamp issued by Mauritius in 1974 to commemorate the 100 years of the UPU.

Old Chimneys of Mauritius

On September17, 1999, the Mauritius Postal Services issued a set of 4 postage stamps on the theme "Old Chimneys of Mauritius".


Re1 - Alma chimney

Rs2 - Antoinette chimney

Rs5 - Belle Mare chimney

Rs7 - Grande Rosalie chimney

The FDC features the Beau Séjour chimney.


A splendid miniature sheet including the 4 stamps was also issued.

The Mauritius Postal Services issued a set of 4 postage stamps on June 18th, 1999 on Local Artists.

Achievements in the 20th Century

The Mauritius Postal Services issued a set of 4 commemorative stamps on 7th December 1999 to highlight the main achievements of Mauritius during the 20th century.


The stamps denominations are as follows:
R1 - Eradication of malaria, a deadly disease transmitted by the Anopheline mosquito,

Rs2 - Emancipation of women,

Rs5 - Construction of the International Conference Centre at Grand Bay,

Rs9 - Manufacture of special sugars, used mainly in bakery.
